Our Name
At Cazcanes, our name is a tribute to resilience, tradition, and authenticity.
It honors the Cazcan people, one of the few indigenous groups whose defiance against Spanish conquest remains a proud legacy in the land we call home — a heritage rooted in the very region where we grow our agave and craft our tequila today.
Their spirit lives on in the land and in every bottle we produce, where we capture tradition, courage, and integrity.
Just as the Cazcanes stood firm for what they believed in, we remain committed to crafting tequila with authenticity, transparency, and deep respect for the craft.
Our Symbol
The Healing Hand, found in ancient cave drawings across the Americas, speaks of healing, connection, and the balance between the natural and spiritual worlds.
At Cazcanes, it honors the hands that shape every part of our journey — from the agave fields to the distillation, bottling, and the final handcrafted touch: a rope tied by hand around each finished bottle.
Each step is guided by intention, tradition, and respect — a reminder that tequila, at its best, is not a product of machines or shortcuts, but the result of generations of skill, dedication, and heart.
Every bottle of Cazcanes carries this spirit forward, honoring the land, the people, and the traditions that make it possible.

The Birthplace of Cazcanes
Our journey led deep into the heart of Mexico, where we met Humberto—a third-generation distiller who has dedicated his life to perfecting a recipe passed down over generations. The tequila he shared with us was vibrant, bold, and deeply rooted in tradition.
Inspired by Humberto’s devotion and the raw purity of his process, we immersed ourselves in the craft. That recipe—born in the jungle and shaped by time—became the soul of Cazcanes.
To honor those origins, we created a limited-edition expression called Nuestras Raíces, handcrafted in small batches by Humberto himself in the jungle where it all began. Made using rustic tools and ancestral techniques, it offers an unfiltered glimpse into tequila’s untamed beginnings—pure, expressive, and deeply personal.

Hands Behind the Craft
With over four decades in the tequila industry, Don Chico is a true craftsman—known for his precision, patience, and unwavering respect for traditional methods. He honors the original recipe and techniques that inspired Cazcanes while refining the process through his hard-earned mastery.
Every bottle reflects his deep commitment to quality—and his belief that great tequila should always stay true to its roots.

OUR BOTTLE
Before there was a name or a label, there was a bottle.
While exploring the tailings—the discarded remains of a once-active gold mine from California’s Gold Rush era—near the historic Harley Mine in Kernville, California, co-founder Colin Edwards came across a small, weathered apothecary bottle. Simple. Unassuming. But with a presence that felt timeless.
That discovery became the foundation for our bottle.
We saw something lasting in its simplicity—something that reflected the heritage we were learning to honor: shaped by history, but still inspiring something new.
We didn’t redesign it—we simply enlarged the original form. The Cazcanes bottle closely mirrors that antique find: solid in hand, clean in profile, and quietly confident. It felt right for what we were building—something that reflects the care and craft behind the spirit inside.
Just like our approach to tequila making, the bottle draws inspiration from the past, honoring tradition while shaping something enduring for today.
Today, it remains a registered trademark and a defining part of the Cazcanes story.
Our Distillery: NOM 1614 TTAP
While Cazcanes was born in the jungle, today we craft our tequila at Distillery NOM 1614 TTAP—a space that honors the past while embracing meticulous craftsmanship.
We follow time-honored techniques: low-and-slow autoclave cooking, open-air fermentation, and thoughtful, hands-on distillation. These methods allow us to capture the agave’s true character—without additives, shortcuts, or compromise.
Every bottle reflects our unwavering commitment to quality, purity, and tradition—crafted with intention, heritage, and the clean, mineral-rich waters of the Navichi Springs that started it all.

Honoring Our Hometown
We’re proud to support the community of Hostotipaquillo—the hometown of our co-founder José Santillán, and the source of the natural spring water that helps define Cazcanes.
As part of our ongoing commitment to this special place, we sponsor local sports teams, hand-deliver Christmas gifts to children in the community during the holidays, and fund a free English language school that offers classes for people of all ages, because language opens doors—to education, employment, and connection beyond the town’s borders. The community provides the space, and we take care of the teachers, materials, and transportation.
We believe opportunity should begin at home. So we invest in education and community to help open doors—for this generation and the next, just as Hostotipaquillo opened them for us.
